Thank You Oldenzaal - Kothman uitgaan The trip A six hour drive through literally all kinds of wheather spat us out in a small town right behind the border. It only took one inspiring bandtalk and a few shorter stops to touch Dutch ground. Without the exact adress we wouldâve passed the building for sure. From the outside, Kothman lines up just perfectly with all the other buildings in Enschedesestraat. But hidden behind the bricks: Kothmann is a gem. Big, open dancefloor, a bar in the cellar and a large beer garden offer plenty of space for private events or - in our case - a stage that waited to be occupied. BeforeWe took our time setting ourselves up and since we had plenty of it, we made sure the new gear would run perfectly smooth and stayed unnoticed in the best case. A brief soundcheck but nontheless quite a few adjustments later, we found ourselves at table backstage. An impeccable staff treated us in the kindest manner. Refills kept coming, delicious vegan food, snacks, fresh coffee - and kaasbitterballen!!! The local treat that won our hearts by storm. Within the last hour we tried to record a few clips for announcing purposes but my head was too much on stage. I couldnât switch into content mode so we skipped that unnecessarily necessary part of the job. đ€Ș (wait for the outtakes!)The showYou guys were there from the first minute, you had us giving our best. We saw you dancing, heard you singing and cheering, you wanted the encore and we submitted to that. You made our day and we couldnât have been any happier with our first appearance in the Netherlands. Thank you so much for supporting us and this wonderful venue.A big shout out to Lichterfrans for pushing lights and painting the stage in the most colourful moods.More in the comments â€”ïž ... insides - preparation is everythingA new venue, a new song, huge delay due to blocked roads, a differently arranged part, maybe a substitute on guitar or even on front of house - all tiny traps that can build up to massive fuckups. And not really a thing you can do about it, but prepare! We always make sure our arrival is not on time but early. We discuss arrangements if changes need to be made, we test amplifiers, pedalboards and playbackracks beforehand to ensure the show will run smoothly. How ever, there will always be a bug in the system and a gravel on the sheet. đ€ŻI guess our job is to keep them hidden and left unnoticed. Way too many connections have to be patched while setting up on stage (I need to ask Christian, our sound engineer, about our channelcount, I guess fourty-ish). If only one or two end up in the wrong channel, things can sound pretty messy and oftentimes thereâs no real slot for troubleshooting and everybody just has to live with it. At this point, I cannot continue without telling you a funny incident that happend at our very last show at BlĂŒtenfest in Havel. We run a talkback mic on stage, located at Lucas working spot to inform the rest of us with changes, cues, or problems that occur out of nowhere. During the show, he noticed we had to skip a song to prevent us from playing into the upcoming bands slot, so he spoke into his mic: âletâs skip TALK and go straight into VIVAâ. Nobody reacted, nobody noticed, everybody was waiting for the interlude that slowly morphes into the intro of TALK when suddenly VIVA began. Big surprise in everybodys eyesđ€ŁLuca: âI said it the whole timeâŠâTo minimise setup mistakes we decided to run all upcoming shows on multiple but smaller stageboxes, connected via ethernetcables. Less cabling across the stage and a prepatched playback rig and wireless mic. A huge satisfaction for someone that gets triggered by cable disorder and best treat for ones OCD. This should easely save a good 5 minutes on setup time and can make a big difference on soundcheck or save enough time for troubleshooting if needed. Continued in the comments â€”ïž ...
